Creative Writing, Room 203, Fall 1990: How We Met

Normally, We start on Monday and each person writes one day of the week. We don't write on Saturday and Sunday.

Since we created this blog on Monday, we can't start the story on Monday. That put us in a quandary. Here is what we are going to do. We are going to post an old story that we did about how we met. The story was my idea, so I will start and then each person will follow.

Here is the order:

After the story is finished, I will come back to this entry and link the parts of the story to this list above. We will finish the story by Friday.

Creative Writing, Room 203, Fall 1990 by: Brandy

Brandy walked into Room 203. She looked at her schedule to make sure that she was in the right class. Creative Writing 2, Room 203, Mrs. Boone; yea, she was in the right room. She found a desk that wasn’t occupied and sat down at the desk. Brandy looked around the room. There were papers on the bulletin boards. She wondered if the teacher would notice if all the papers were missing when she walked in the room. Brandy told herself not to start any trouble on the first day in this class., but she couldn’t get the thought of playing a practical joke out of her mind.

A guy walked in the room as Brandy looked up. He smiled at her. She smiled back. The guy was tall, lanky, and had a crazy haircut that must have took 5 hours to cut with all the lines, zigzags, and shapes in his head. The guy sat two rows in front of her. He had a word cut in the back of his head… T-Mo. Brandy shook her head, “What in the world does T-Mo stand for?”

Brandy watched a tall girl walk into the room. The girl looked around the room to find somewhere to sit. The girl’s eyes fixed on the seat next to Brandy. Brandy watched the girl walk over and sit down. Brandy pretended to read as the girl placed her book and folder on the desk. The girl looked at Brandy, “Hello. My name is Kelly. What’s your name?” Brandy smiled, “I’m Brandy.” Brandy went back to reading her book. She wasn’t ready to make any friends at that moment.

Kelly rushed to Room 203. She wasn’t sure if she was going to be late or not. She didn’t want to be late to Creative Writing. It was one of her favorite things to do, write. She had heard that Mrs. Daisy Boone was a great teacher.

Kelly walked into the room. There were 6 students already in the room; ten girls and two boys. The two boys were sitting together. They looked exactly alike. Both were dark skinned. They both had college cuts. They both had light brown eyes. They were cute. Kelly stopped staring as a tall guy brushed by her. She looked at the back of his head, and he had the word T-Mo cut into the back of his head. Kelly laughed as she thought, “They sure have some crazy haircuts these days.” She sounded just like her grandmother.

Kelly fixed on a girl who was sitting by herself. Kelly decided to go join her. The girl appeared to be reading when Kelly walked over to her. Kelly fixed her books perfectly. That was her one flaw, everything had to be perfect. Kelly could feel the girl sitting next to her staring at her. Kelly quickly finished and then sat down. Kelly looked at brandy and said, “Hi. My name is Kelly. What’s your name?” The girl said, “It’s Brandy.” Brandy went back to reading her book, so Kelly didn’t bother her anymore.

Anita walked into Room 203. She was dreading this class because she had heard that Mrs. Boone liked to give lots of homework and liked to make you work in groups. Anita detested working in groups. It was the worst thing that you could do to her.

She adjusted the strap of her Minnie Mouse book bag on her shoulder and walked to find a seat. There were people scattered all over the room. Anita saw a girl that she recognized from her Math class, so she decided to go sit beside her.

Anita put her bag down next Kelly. Anita said, “Your name is Kelly, right.” Kelly smiled and said, “Yea. You are in my Math class, aren’t you?” Anita was happy; she couldn’t believe that Kelly had remembered her. Kelly looked at Brandy and said, “Brandy, this is Anita.” Kelly looked at Anita and said, “Anita, this is Brandy.” Brandy said, “Hi.” Anita said, “Hello.” Brandy went back to reading her book.

Anita said to Kelly, “I hear Mrs. Boone likes to put people in groups. Do you wanna be in a group together?” Kelly smiled, “Yea, that’s cool.” Kelly looked at Brandy and said, “Do you want to be in our group?” Brandy made an ugly face and said, “Yea, I don’t care. I suppose we have to be friends now or something.” Anita said, “Is there something wrong with being friends with us?” Brandy made a silly face and said, “Naw, I just asked a question. How many people are supposed to be in our group anyway?” Anita said, “I am not sure. Maybe five or six.” Brandy blew a breath, “That’s a lot of people.” Anita and Kelly laughed at the face Brandy made. Anita and Kelly talked to each other as they waited for class to start.

Anita looked up when Brandy said, “I hope she is not about to walk back here.” Anita and Kelly looked up and saw a well-dressed young lady walking towards them. Anita asked, “What’s wrong with her?” Brandy said, “She is new to the school and she thinks everyone is supposed to wait on her. She is in my History class. She bugged me for the whole class. She almost got me into with Mr. James. He is crazy. I don’t want to be bothered with her.”

Brandy stopped talking when Mitzy walked up to her and said, “Hi. I am glad that you are in this class. I haven’t had a class with anyone else that I recognize. This place is so hard to get through. Did they ever think of putting elevators in here?”

Anita and Kelly laughed. Anita thought to herself, “Creative Writing was going to be interesting this year.”

Mitzy walked into the classroom. She was tired of walking around the school. Why had her father decided to make her go to public school? She had left all of her friends. She was popular at her other school. Everyone liked her at her other school. This was ridiculous. Mitzy reminded herself what her grandmother often told her, “Baby, everything happens for a reason.” Mitzy just hoped that she saw someone in the classroom that she recognized.

Mitzy looked around the classroom for one familiar face. She finally saw one. She wasn’t sure where she had the girl at and she couldn’t remember the girl’s name, but Mitzy was happy to see her.

Mitzy walked back to the group of girls. They stopped talking when Mitzy walked up to them. Mitzy paid them no attention. She looked at the girl she recognized and said, “Hello. I am glad to see you. I haven’t seen anyone else that I recognized. Are they ever gonna put elevators in this place?” they two girls sitting with the girl that Mitzy recognized laughed. Mitzy shook her head.

One of the girls said, “I am Anita. This is Kelly. I guess you already know Brandy. What’s your name?” Mitzy said, “I am Mitzy Taylor.” Anita laughed.

Bridgette was going to be late for another class. She had to do better with her time. The tardy bell rung and Bridgette ran the last few steps to the classroom. When she got to the door, she heard a squeaky adult voice say, “I do not tolerate tardiness. If I can get here on time, so can you.” The lady stopped talking when Bridgette entered the room.

Bridgette flashed the teacher a smile. The teacher did not seem phased by it. the teacher said, “There is an empty seat next to those young ladies back there,” she pointed to a group of girls, “Go sit with them. Hurry up please.” Bridgette scurried to the group of girls. She got to the group of girls and flashed a smile. The girls all gave her a crazy look. Bridgette sat down.

The teacher said, “As you can see, tardy people are a distraction.” The teacher glared at Bridgette. Bridgette smiled at the teacher. The teacher continued, “I am Mrs. Daisy Boone. This is Creative Writing. You will be expected to write. I will expect you to write a lot. You should not be in my class if you don’t like writing.” Mrs. Boone paused and looked around the entire room. She said, “Take a few minutes and introduce yourself to the people sitting at the table with you.”

“I’m Anita.”
“I’m Kelly.”
“Brandy.”
“I am Mitzy Taylor.”
“I’m Bridgette.”

Mrs. Boone started back to talking, “I expect you all to do some collaborative writings. That means writing with other people. The people that you are sitting with will be your team members.”

Gasps came from all over the room. A guy raised his hand. Mrs. Boone acknowledged him. He asked, “What if we don’t want to be in the group that we are in now?” she said, “It doesn’t matter. The groups have been set and I am not going to change them. There will be times you will have to work with people that you don’t want to work with.”

Bridgette looked at the members of her team. She hoped that they weren’t goof-offs. She hated when people didn’t do their share of the work.

What We Do?

We are a group of friends who like to write. We post our stories here. Each week, we start a new story. Each day, a different person writes a part of the story. We each write between 200-400 words for each part of our story.

We have been doing this for awhile now. We recently decided to put the story online.

The writers are: Anita, Brandy, Bridgette, Kelly, and Mitzy.
